About

Ben 01.jpg

Hi there! My name is Ben Lucero and I’m a former public school band director and current private drum teacher with a degree in Music Education from New Mexico State University. I’ve been playing the drum set in a wide variety of bands and projects for over 40 years and teaching for over 28 of those years. I've taught young and old and everything in between. I always tell anybody interested in playing the drums that it's never to late to begin!

My mission as a drum teacher is to help my students achieve their musical goals. If you haven't thought about your musical goals, now might be a good time to think about it. I'd love to hear what you have to say about your musical aspirations! Read below if you want to learn a brief history of my playing career. I know you're busy so I'll keep it brief.

After several years of playing in a variety of bands in New Mexico through my time in high school, I left for college and toured all over the western United States with my college pop, rock and original band Jupiter Street. Yes, I was a sleepy college kid but did alright! After college, I moved to Los Angeles where I was a middle school band director and continued my drum set playing with various LA-based artists. I’ve been in Colorado Springs for the past 25 years and played the drums with the popular alternative rock band "One Man Gone" for many years. Although I’m a professional instructional designer by day, I still love to perform and teach! I'm currently a member of the funk and soul band "Collective Groove" and enjoy playing some of the funkiest music on the planet with some of the best musicians in Colorado!

Beyond teaching, I write music, I record and engineer/mix music and enjoy all aspects of the music production process. Some of my favorite artists include Pat Metheny, Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Spock’s Beard, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Kansas, Styx, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Kip Winger.
